CHECKLIST FOR PARENTS WHEN SEEKING AN APPROPRIATE PROGRAM FOR THEIR DEAF OR HEARING IMPAIRED CHILD
 
1.
Is the attitude to deafness positive? Do they have deaf or hearing impaired adults involved in the program?
2.
How is the school program organised? Are the teachers stressed by lack of resources/personnel eg trying to teach too many children in different educational levels in the same class?
3.
What is the success rate of the school? What educational level do the children leave school with?
4.
What is being taught? What is the education program? Is it only on the development of language or are other subjects taught? What is the literacy rate of the students?
5.
Are the teachers skilled in the communication method used by the school? e.g. if it's a Signed English program, are the teachers fluent?
6.
How far is the school from your home? Travelling can be very tiring for children.
7.
Is there innovation and research furthered at the school?
8.
Is there any encouragement for family involvement?
